Scanning barcodes/UPCs

If your company has UPCs set up, you'll be able to scan UPCs and input pricing directly. This can save a ton time especially with resets.

There are 2 ways to scan UPCs:

  1. Using your camera
  2. Using a handheld UPC scanner

Scanning with your camera

While editing a tag project:

  • Tap the UPC button on the iPhone or tap
  • Or on the iPad, tap the Dots then Scan...

If this is your first time using this feature, Tagify will ask your permission to use the camera. From there, you'll see Tagify is ready to scan.

Just focus on the UPC with your camera and Tagify will do the rest.

Scanning with a UPC/barcode scanner

While editing a tag project:

  • Tap the UPC button on the iPhone or tap
  • Or on the iPad, tap the Dots then Scan...
  • Now tap Handheld.

With your handheld scanner paired with your device, you can start scanning UPCs.

What kind of scanners are compatible?

Any Bluetooth scanner that technically functions as a keyboard and is compatible with iOS.

For example, this Eyoyo (Amazon link) works great. While something like this one (Amazon link) would not work as it's meant to be used directly with a computer.

UPC formats

By default, most scanners are going to grab a UPC and then use a carriage return or new line to submit the UPC. Tagify knows how to read this and will automatically process the UPC like normal.

Tagify can also handle a custom format used by some route accounting software that looks like this: +123456789012=

What happens after a scan?

Now that you've successfully scanned a UPC, three things can happen:

  1. It found your UPC

    • If your company has that UPC set up you can punch the price right in.
  2. It found your UPC, but we've got choices

    • If you've got a UPC that's attached to multiple brands/packages, you'll be able to pick which one you want to use.
  3. It didn't find your UPC

    • In this case, your company doesn't have this UPC set up. But there's good news! Assuming your local admins let you, you can help your team by adding it yourself. After it's added and saved, it'll be available to everyone going forward.
